It wasn’t long into his administrative residency at ETMC Athens that Adam Willmann recognized he was part of a good thing. “My ultimate goal was to stay with the system in some capacity,” said Willmann, who began his residency with ETMC Athens a year ago this June. “It’s a wonderful system to work for and they have so many opportunities.”As his yearlong residency began to draw to a close, Willmann planned for his next step. With his master’s degree in health administration (following a BS in biomedical science with a minor in business administration) and a very diverse residency, Willmann was certainly marketable. He interviewed for a position in Florida and another in Texas while he kept his fingers crossed that something on the “home team” would open up. Then in May, Associate Administrator Jack Endres was promoted to administrator at ETMC Jacksonville. “I knew there was an opportunity at hand and that Mr. Wallace needed to consider his options and weigh the possibilities,” said Willmann. ETMC Administrator Pat Wallace did just that, and in June, just as the residency was ending, Willmann was appointed assistant administrator. “While we certainly miss Jack, the timing couldn’t be better in terms of making a smooth transition,” Wallace said of Willmann’s hire. “Adam has proven himself for a year, and we’re happy both for him and for us that this opportunity arose when it did.” Willmann has several departments reporting to him: dietary/nutrition, environmental services, laboratory/pathology, plant operations/security, pharmacy, the Seven Points Rural Health Clinic and the contracted services of physical therapy, laundry and biomed. “The managers of each of these services have responded very well to the transition,” said Willmann. “We’ll be able to work together well.” In addition to his new responsibilities, Willmann continues to be responsible for executing any needed projects or research related to administration. “The opportunity I’ve been given, in terms of the responsibilities given me, is more than I could have expected elsewhere,” said Willmann. “It’s the opportunity of a lifetime.” Willmann and his wife, Heather, live in Athens with their two dogs.
